In the present work PPV-oligomers have been blended with the corresponding polymer in very low concentrations so as to create low energy sites in the higher band gap oligomer matrix. The effect of doping on the energetics of transport was used to understand the role of low energy defects in real world conducting polymeric systems. Preliminary results from LED devices indicate that the effect of polydispersity in conjugation length is profound. The external efficiency of the LED based on a five-ring oligo-PPV was more than halved upon blending with PPV. The electroluminescence data in conjunction with solid and solution state spectral data will be discussed.
